Cracked teeth are more common than you might think! In fact it’s one of the most common issues that we see here at EviDental. The patient typically experiences this as a sharp pain when biting into something, even something as soft as a marshmallow!

Although teeth are made from the hardest substances in the body, they are also the most brittle. Because today’s modern oral care allows people to keep their teeth for longer, the teeth are subjected to repeated crushing forces for many years. Add to this the drillings, fillings and other treatments we inflict on them, and it stands to reason that a tooth will eventually crack!

The course of action following a crack depends on its extent and the consequences. Often the crack results in the tooth chipping. Sometimes this can be fixed with a simple filling, or in more extensive cases, the tooth may need a crown, and possibly a root canal.
